Little Brother 2

We're up to page 88 now and this book is unreal and insanely creative. The intensity of the United States government holding Winston captive was written so well that it would be hard for any reluctant reader to put the book down. But on the other hand after Winston was let go and he went home his thought process was very hard for me to get through. The paranoia was very intriguing but the idea of ParaniodLinix is a tad overkill. But without it, obviously the continuation of the book would not work.

Multi Genre Project

So I was working on my project last night, doing some research, figuring out how to organize this ungodly amount of my past embedded in multiple genres of media and literature. But the fact that my childhood was not exactly normal kept coming back to the front of my brain. I never really listened to Britney Spears, any boy band (N*SYNC, O-Town, Backstreet Boys), or any former member of the Mickey Mouse Club. My childhood focused on older music. I knew Barbra Streisand by the time I was 3, singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" while playing with blocks in a room by myself. When boy bands were big, I was writing stories, or watching shows that only kept my attention by the music, or theme songs. My childhood circled around musicals and theatre. The fact my life was so engaged in music at an early age is a great reason why I love music so much. I've taught myself how to to play guitar, and taking a piano class right now. The music I listen to now is fully based on the lyrics (poetry) and the harmonics and the sound of it.

The Black Swan

I saw The Black Swan last night!!! Holy crap this movie was insane! The ballet was beautiful, but many must go into the theater understanding that this movie is on the lines of horror and most likely not going to make sense the first time, and you're going to spend 3/4 of the movie wondering what is going on. Since I have an eye for color I loved the fact that the directed used black and whites in order to enhance the plot further than just the ballet aspects to the movie.

Little Brother

I've started reading Little Brother and I am at pg 50, or just finished chapter 3. This book reminds me a lot of the book 1984 mixed with the movie The Book of Eli. Strange I know. It reminds me of 1984 because the government is always watching and monitoring what the world is doing, down to the gait of their walk as identification. But it also reminds me The Book of Eli, as the setting. I imagine a lot of dust and dirt. The mysterious bomb, and terrorist attack could have been to what almost ended the world as a set-up to the movie plot.

I really like the use of different language concepts in this novel. The fact that the author uses the narration like a teen boy who tends to be the rebel of society. Doctorow shows Winston's intelligence by having the character be able to tell a high technological concept then "dumb it down" for the readers to understand. Also teens today tend to speak foreign languages in various phrases. I really like how the author creates a flavor to the main character by doing this as well.
